What Is A Negative Ion? | NION Health

A negative ion, or Anion, is an atom that has more electrons than protons. If the atom has more protons than electrons, it is a positive ion. Although they are called negative ions, their name is deceiving. Negative ions are extremely beneficial to the human body. Unfortunately, in today’s modernized world, most of us are negative ion deficient. When humans are exposed to negative ions in their naturally occurring environments, the positive results are felt instantaneously.

What does that feel like?

Waterfalls

It starts with water cascading from above. The current is fierce yet beautiful. This is one of nature's most magical phenomena. The waterfall. There is an overwhelming sense of serenity when you are near a waterfall, but why? Let’s take a deeper dive and investigate what is actually happening.
Being in a waterfall’s presence makes us feel good, and for good reason. The environment created by a waterfall is abundant with negative ions. When water collides with itself, negative ions are released. The droplets create a mist that carries them. We reap the benefits by breathing them in and absorbing them through our skin, our nostrils, and our lungs. Your body requires a negative charge at the cellular level to be healthy. Negative ions provide this negative charge. Once they are absorbed by the body, negative ions positively impact mood by promoting the production of serotonin. Serotonin is the ‘feel-good’ chemical.
Now imagine you are under a waterfall. The negative ion dense mist rejuvenates your life force. The powerful sound of crashing water puts your mind in a meditative state. You are refreshed, immersed in nature. You feel good. This is the power of negative ions.

Earthing

Now what does it feel like to connect directly to the Earth?

Thin blades of grass massage your bare feet. The terrain is hard, yet soft. You are linked directly to the Earth's crust. Walking barefoot is incredibly peaceful, but why? What is responsible for creating such an infectious transfer of positive energy? The answer: Negative ions.
The Earth has a negative surface charge. Earthing, or grounding, is the practice of placing bare skin on the earth in order to absorb millions of electrons into the body. The earth is a conductor, as are all living beings. When you connect physically to the Earth, you absorb negative ions. When you are electrically grounded, you feel centered, strong, solid, balanced, less tense, and less stressed.
Now imagine yourself lying down on the ground. You’re connecting to an infinite source of electrons that recharge your physiology at the cellular level. This is grounding. This is the power of negative ions.

Positive Ions

As humanity and technology have evolved, our exposure to positive ions has increased. Most forms of pollution, toxic chemicals, pollen, mold, pet dander, and other harmful chemicals in the air all carry a positive electrical charge, making them positive ions. Unfortunately, in today’s world, there are significant quantities of positive ions in the air, much more than what our ancestors and hunter-gatherers encountered.

What Generates Positive Ions?

In general, anything that’s toxic or has electromagnetic capabilities will generate harmful positive ions including:
  • Electronic devices like televisions, phones, and computers
  • Fluorescent lighting
  • Toxic carpeting, upholstery, and paint
  • Air pollution, especially in crowded cities and industrial zones
Most studies have found that levels of positive ions are extremely high in homes, cities, and office buildings. If you have ever felt depressed, anxious, or stressed for no reason at all, you might be suffering from what’s known as positive ion poisoning. Positive ions can disrupt cellular activity. Their ionic properties can change proteins in the human body. Positive ions can bind to proteins, causing them to become more rigid and less flexible. This can affect the way the proteins interact with other molecules, leading to changes in the way the body functions.

Negative Ions vs Positive Ions

Positive ions bombard our existence. Most forms of pollution and toxic chemicals will generate them. In today's modern world, they are a dominant force and completely outnumber negative ions. Constant exposure to positive ions can leave us feeling depleted, stressed, empty, and disconnected. Negative ions can re-establish that lost connection. They are harder to find, however, their existence stems from nature. They exist in waterfalls, oceans, beaches, mountains, and forests. They improve mood, reduce stress, and can improve overall health. Negative ions are essential.

Negative Ion Benefits

Negative ions are referred to as ‘vitamins of the air’. Their negative voltage powers human physiology at the cellular level. This cellular rejuvenation encourages a plethora of benefits in the human body.

Negative ions:

  • Improve mood.

  • Increase energy levels.

  • Improve sleep.

  • Improve concentration.

  • Enhance immune function.

  • Revitalize cell metabolism.

Education regarding negative ions and their impact on the human body is a priority. If human beings are healthier at the cellular level, we can live longer, more vital lives. We believe that in the future, human lifespan can exceed 200 years. We fully realize we are not there yet. However, there are steps we can take to clear the path. Biohackers know this. They live to amplify their physiological conditions using techniques such as intermittent fasting and exercise. Another biohacking tool is negative ion exposure. Some people visit waterfalls and mountains where negative ions exist naturally, others use air purifiers and negative ion blankets to gain an essential negative charge.

Negative Ion Nerd Minutes

We understand how important negative ions are. Unfortunately, their name puts them at a disadvantage. We seek to change that perception. Our Nerd Minute series on social media tackles various scientific topics week to week. We speak about negative ions regularly and are passionate about their effects on human health.

Click here to watch our negative ion Nerd Minutes.

You need negative ions so that your life can resemble the waterfall. So that you can feel the euphoria associated with the environment it creates. So that you can feel like you are laying peacefully on the ground rather than being bombarded by what ails the modern world. You need negative ions.

At NION Health, our goal is to create and provide biology hacks intelligently formulated to maximize longevity and vitality. NION is our first adventure. It is the only electrolyte product on the market containing negative ions safe enough for daily consumption. Most electrolyte companies focus on the mg (material) but neglect the mV (charge). We understand the importance of negative ions and deliver a -330mV negative electric potential. NION is a flavorless crystalline electrolyte drink mix intelligently formulated for better absorption to improve hydration, replenish lost minerals, improve stamina, and amplify the regenerative effects of intermittent fasting.

Get your NION today and join the tribe. Negative ions await you.
